World Food Day

 





world food day is celebrated every year on 16th october . this day is celebrated worldwide ... the main 

motive of the day is to reduce the food waste all over the world , create awarness among 

people bout food waste to make food from not getting 

adultered and there are many reasons for celebrating this day . protect food, innovate food 

and sustain food. the role of the food technologists is to provide more and more oppurtunities 

for the raw food to excel into a innovative food. we all have to thank god each day foe getting 

food in right time.. all over the world there are many people who does not get their right food 

at right we should think of this every single time when we are wasting food.

here on this food day iam going to discuss some of the ways to deal with food waste.. as a 

food tech student happy to share this note with you all.




How To deal with future food waste?

Nowadays the food waste is much more than the last decades. This must be overcome for 

sure . people of about 36% in the world’s population are below the line of poverty ie, extreme 

poverty . only 64% of people gets the proper 3 time meal and  some get 2 time meal but what 

about others? Do we think about them? We should think about them every single time when 

waste  our food. When our whole family waste food every it might be a full meal for a poor 

person ……

Measures to reduce food in small scale:

There are some possible ways to avoid such wastages in small scale ie, (in house) are as follows:

·      Eat right food at right time.

·      Have a small quantity of food at first and if u can have again.

·      In case some food get wasted make sure that you are not throwing it out. Use them as a plant manure.

·      The wasted vegetable water can be used for plants . these are some of the measures which can be done at a small scale .

Measures to reduce food in large scale:

In a large scale for example , in food industries the vegetable peels, excess of food wastage can be easily converted into useful works such as  :                                  

ร˜ The excess of vegetable waste can be dumped and the biofuel ( biogas) can be produced  from it.

ร˜ Egg shells,vegetable peels can be used in the vermicompost pit which can be converted into organic manure as well as it is profitable.

ร˜ The vegetable cleaned water can be used for garden purposes.                          

Food is a bio-degradable waste product and hence can be converted for useful purposes to a

 large extent. The another major food waste happens during the occations such as the 

religious festivals, parties, marriage functions etc…..during such occations the food which has 

been wasted are thrown out literally.. but we should avoid that and can distribute such foods to

 the poor people , orphanages , old people. Nowadays there are some 

agencies / volunteers who collects such food and distribute them . we can contact them and 

ask for help.

 

Water :

                         Do anyone think about water? Is water a food? Yes, water is the essential food

 that we consume. Without water we cannot live atleast for a single day. If we do so …it may 

lead to many health issues. But water is wasted here , there and everywhere. Water wastage

 can also be avoided in a small scale by the following methods:

  1.    Avoid wasting water in showers and bathtubs.

   2.   Water which is used in kitchen can be reused for the garden purposes.

   3.    Use toilet papers in restrooms.

   4.  The automatic ground water sucking motor can be used to avoid wastage.

    5. Close the tap while brushing your teeth, it might be silly but most of us are not doing that.

Beverage industries:

Now here comes the beverage industry where the water is again much more wasted…. There are some methods to recycle it they are:

§  The wasted water in industries  can be used for watering the trees.

§  The sewage water in the industries can be used for the “STP’’ plants which is the process of converting such water into clean water and can be used for the garden purposes, farming etc… can be done.

Dairy industry:

                 Now we shall also have to talk about the dairy industries… India stands the largest 

producer of the milk in the world. But here the moreover milk can be used for many purposes 

but in some ways it gets spolied and wasted. This may be due to its life span OR some 

religious customs OR during some pandemic disease  Large wastage of milk can be reduced

 by modifying milk into many other milk products such as cheese, ghee, curd, butter, 

buttermilk,lassi and many more……


The population in the world is day to day increasing but there are people without food ! And 

there are billions and trillions tons of food wastage ! how come it happened ? think about it. 

And avoid wasting the food. The above written methods may help you to reduce food and 

water wastage I suppose….
